The leaves of Magnolia virginiana, or Sweetbay Magnolia are another great decorating option. The two that I planted in my front yard are not quite ready for action yet (see former post on the replacement of Japanese Maples with Sweetbay Magnolia much to the horror of my neighbors), but I have seen gorgeous arrangements using the brown and green, leathery looking leaf of the Sweetbay Magnolia.
This is an arrangement I came across while out and about town. Not only is your native landscaping providing much needed food and habitat for the local wildlife, but it is also providing great home decor!
